Setting up for the Tea Tasting while an attendee who left Manhattan early to make sure she made it on time, relaxes and enjoys the afternoon sun.
Many thanks to the Warner Library for hosting us yesterday - they certainly know how to put on a great show. We had a sell-out crowd of about 40 attendees and several of them were Silver Tips customers and fans, some whom I hadn't seen in a while. We sampled 4 teas:
- Makaibari 2nd Flush, Organic Darjeeling
- Ti Kwan Yin Oolong
- Lychee Green, artisan green tea
- Sweet Indulgence, a Rooibos flavored with strawberry, raspberry & chocolate.
We covered a lot of ground - what Tea was, where it was grown, how it was manufactured, the differences between and among teas, why herbal 'teas' weren't teas, how to steep and how to best store teas. Questions were plenty and the audience kept us on our toes. We asked each to tell us what their favorite tea was and the results were surprising. We expected Earl Grey and English Breakfast, of course, but we also learned that they appreciated Jasmine, Lapsang Souchong, Assam & Darjeeling, Serendipitea, Genghis Khan, Genmaicha, Cinnamon, Chai and Oolong. We left each with a coupon for a Free Pot of Tea at Silver Tips. Thanks for inviting us and a special thanks to Maureen Petry at the Library for making all the arrangements.
