Darjeeling

We have been drinking this tea for years; I know many prefer a first flush but there is a depth to this second flush. It starts with the fragrance, I always take time to really take it in, rich, delicate with a hint of sweetness, it’s the only type of tea I have trouble stopping just enjoying the fragrance to actually start sipping. The taste does not disappoint, it is so deep and complex that I can hardly believe the delicacy. I have tried Darjeeling in tea houses and from other purveyors, and nothing is like Silver Tips.

Thank you for your kind words and your loyalty over these many years. This is an extraordinary tea and the lingering fragrance and sweetness are exquisite. So glad you enjoy it as much as we do, Cathy.

Makaibari Darjeeling Tea

Give me tea with a touch of dusk
and the sound of a whistling thrush,

with the sweat from a chulla (hearth) hand
and the hum of pahadi (mountain) song,

with a breath of distant snow
and the monastery gong,

with the warmth of an oily razai (quilt)
and the smell of a gunny sack,

with the mist still morning sent
and the night still warm on my back.

give me long leaves and muscatel delux
and make it a Makabari second flush!

Steeping Instructions

Use 1 tsp. leaf per 8 oz. cup.
Pour boiling water over leaves.
Steep 3.5 mins.

Tea Education

2nd flush is sometimes called the Easter Flush. The leaf from these bushes has matured a bit since the early spring harvest but it is plucked well before the monsoons arrive which is typically mid-June. Too much moisture results in a greater yield but a lower quality of Darjeeling leaf so 2nd flush is pre-monsoon. 2nd flush leaves, when infused, exhibit a coppery hue to the leaf and the fragrance carries a deeper floral scent. It has more body in the cup with an increased pungency. The 2nd flush harvest has more staying power and is our most popular Makaibari tea.
