Second flush Makaibari Estate Darjeeling is a fresh, crisp brew with a clean finish. It's more robust than first flush, but still aromatic with citrus notes. For me it teeters between first flush, where I would never use milk, and a more traditional Assam, where I would. Comparing first flush and second, I do think first flush is perhaps a more unique and special tea, but maybe something I'll buy seasonally. The delight of that first cup of first flush feels like spring in a teacup. Second flush is a bit more ordinary, but also a superb tea. You can't go wrong with either.
New Vithanakande Estate OP
Classic long-leaf style leaf from Sri Lanka, New Vithanakande estate - a new lot. A must try. One of our personal recommendations. Ceylon black teas are often considered the ideal 5 o'clock tea. Very good for those who enjoy a brisk, flavorful cup. In strength - not as strong as an Assam or Irish Breakfast. Good with milk or on its own.

We have been drinking New Vith every day since discovering it at the SilverTips tea room in Tarrytown 20(?) years ago. We were VERY sorry to see the shop close after enjoying it for so long, but remain glad that we still have a local mail-order source for our favorite Ceylon brew.
20 years ago sounds about right! Happy to still be of service to you. New Vithanakande remains a customer favorite along with Kenilworth, Ceylon.
This is an uncomplicated ceylon that is great for an afternoon tea. Due to it's long leaves, be sure to use an extra scoop of it when brewing - or go by weight to get the right amount, otherwise it will be too weak.
Quite right - a very useful tip or you will miss the full character of the tea.
Steeping Instructions
Use 1 heaped tsp. leaf per 8 oz. cup.
Pour boiling water over leaves.
Steep 4-5 mins.
Milk may be added.

One of my favorite teas
This is the tea my coffee-loving partner drinks every afternoon... after years of making fun of me for drinking tea. It's a liquid treat in a cup.
I mainly drink unflavored green tea, but this black tea is light but with a deep flavor. I don't know how else to say it, but I love it.
One of the most aromatic, delicate and sweet blends. There hasn’t yet been anyone among my friends who has tasted this tea at my place and have not asked for it during the next visit.
First tea of the day -- absolutely lovely
having drank lots of earl grey over many years, this is my favorite. if you love bergamot flavor, definitely give this a try.
When I want a flavorful tea to pick me up in the morning or from my afternoon slump English Breakfast tea is my go to tea, strong with a dash of milk.
When I long for chocolate then drinking this chai is a great substitute.
Delicious, bright and fresh taste. Reminds me of tea I drank with my mother.
Throughout the week, I rotate through different varieties of black tea. This bold, malty breakfast tea is one of my favorites and always on my rotation list! A perfect kick-start to the day or an afternoon pick-me-up.
I know that first flush tea is highly esteemed for its elegant, delicate flavor but I like my teas a little stronger. This second flush Makaibari still has the distinctive fragrant, floral character of Darjeeling, but with bolder flavor for a great morning wake-me-up!
Lovely, pale brew. Have enjoyed multiple steeps.
My go-to daily morning green tea.
Delicious, smooth cup. Good any time of day.
