At Silver Tips Tea, we always recommend following our steeping instructions to know the correct quantity of leaves needed per cup and the time and temperature needed for each steep. Rooibos loose-leaf teas have a distinct light yet earthy flavor that tends to taste sweet naturally without the added sugar. Some might even say it has notes of vanilla.
Don’t let the light flavor fool you. Rooibos is strong enough to tolerate the traditional as well as alternative milk of your choice and yet is naturally non-caffeinated, so enjoy each robust cup.
Rooibos, which is South African Red Bush, comes from a unique plant called aspalathus linearis. Only grown in South Africa, the Rooibos bush offers a cup that is ultra-rich in antioxidants and provides proven health benefits. Rooibos is not part of the traditional tea family (camellia sinensis), and it’s naturally caffeine-free!
There are two types of Rooibos teas: red and green. The difference between them is the processing method. Red Rooibos loose-leaf teas are fully oxidized, while Green Rooibos is not. Learn more about the basics of tea when you visit our educational pages.
