The fuss about GMOs

There are definitely two camps on this - either you believe genetically modified foods are OK or you don't.  GMOs (genetically modified organisms) are anathema to the Organic industry.  We think there is no room for them in our food system without proper labelling.  But this is a hard slog.  All around the country, despite millions of consumer signatures on petitions, bills to label genetically modified foods have failed.  Against this backdrop, we were so pleased today to read in The New York Times that Whole Foods has decided to take a leadership role in this fight.  The Organic Trade Association has provided more background here.  For those new to the Organic industry, there are a few basics that are germane to it - no chemical pesticides, no irradiation, no sewage sludge and no GMOs.
