Makaibari First flush Darjeeling is prized.  It is the first harvest of the year, in the Spring.  Our carefully selected batches contain all the desirable characteristics of an authentic first flush - greenish hue to the leaf, sharp, clean, floral taste.  Savor the spirit of the Himalayas as soon as you open the bag!

First Flush is the cherished crop of Darjeeling, called 'the champagne of teas". These are are the early picks of the year, slightly astringent, with an underlying fragrant tone to the cup. A short steep recommended. Enjoy the spirit of the Himalayas - Organic, Biodynamic & Fair Trade. For other Makaibari teas, click here.

Delightful!

Normally I'm an Assam girl, but when this year's Makaibari first flush tea came out, I was intrigued, and thought I'd give it a try. I am officially a fan! It's crisp, clean and flavorful. The taste is rich and complex enough for my morning cup. Definitely best without milk, so all the flavors can find full expression.

Excellent Darjeeling tea

Very much one of my favourite teas I’ve had in recent years. It’s very consistent and I’ve purchased it several times in the recent months. It’s a nice tea and it’s not too sensitive to being over steeped as some Darjeeling teas are. It’s my favourite breakfast tea!

Tea Education

After the bushes have been dormant all winter long, the first showers around February or March stir the bushes and the early spring leaves produce a glorious leaf. The first day of plucking on the estate is called Paila Patti (First Leaf) and celebrated with gifts to workers and a blessing of the estate and season ahead. 1st flush is astringent - crisp and sharp - and enjoyed best at a short steep without milk or sugar. The infused leaves have a distinct greenish hue, a mark of quality, sometimes mistaken for a green tea which is incorrect. For those who need slightly more body to their Darjeeling, 2nd flush or Autumnal would be a better option. 1st Flush is my daily cup all year round.
