Make Every Day Earth Day

Hard to believe it is almost 50 years since the concept of Earth Day was introduced.  On April 22, 1970, about 20 million Americans took to the streets in answer to Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson's call for a "national teach-in on the environment".  His partners in this effort were Republican Congressman Pete McCloskey and Denis Hayes from Harvard.

Fast forward to 1990 when a group of environmental leaders requested Denis Hayes to lead another big campaign. Many of us remember that day when 200 million people worldwide in 141 countries participated in efforts to boost environmental issues globally.  In 1995, Senator Nelson was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom - the highest honor given to civilians in the United States - for his leading role as the founder of...

Trekkers at Makaibari

Chris & Peter Merg are intrepid trekkers.  They've covered impressive ground in Nepal and Tibet and before heading to Sikkim/Bhutan, they had stopped at Makaibari.  I met them and we got talking and what an interesting tale they have!  They come from Germany and had heard about Makaibari through The Lonely Planet and, now retired, they were focused on enriching their lives through new adventures.  Their special interest, apart from hiking...

160 Trees Planted!

During the month of April we partnered with OneTreePlanted.org. This organization facilitates tree planting simply - donate $1 and 1 tree would be planted. Thanks to all of you we planted 160 Trees around the World and they sent us a wonderful Tree Certificate to commemorate our efforts.

It indicated to us that sustainability is appreciated not just by us but by our customers as well. It also inspired us to offer an opportunity for our customers to plant their own trees. Already, a significant  number of customers have taken advantage of this.  Supporting our planet couldn't be any easier!

The idea was received enthusiastically by our team but placed on hold until Earth Day when we thought it would be an ideal fit.  So for the month of April, we implemented a plan that for every $25 ordered online, Silver Tips would...

New Tea Mints

We've been carrying Green Tea Mints from a company called Sencha Naturals for many years.  Recently, they introduced new packaging and flavors and we just got them in.  They are now in tubes and not only do they look great but they embody many eco-conscious changes implemented by the company including a solar-powered manufacturing facility and packaging made of 65% post-consumer waste that is 100% biodegradable.  The base green tea is organic and fair trade and their sugar-free sweetener is a non-GMO sorbitol.  Their enlightened thinking can be summarized by their description, "Green tea, green packaging, green power".   I've known owner David Kerdoon since he began this company and we've supplied him tea over the years.  Just 3 of these Tea Mints contain the antioxidant equivalent...
